The GMDC is a physical and virtual resource centre based in Southern Africa, with linkages in Africa and across the globe. The centre envisages media that are diverse, representative, responsive, and professional, and a citizenry, women and men, who are empowered to engage critically with their media. It facilitates the collection, connection and dissemination of information and resources relating to gender, media and diversity. The centre also collaborates on research, education and training. Competent service providers are invited to submit tenders for the provision of a content management system for three related websites of organisations that do research, training and advocacy work on gender in the Southern African region. Women's media, women's human rights and funding: a wiki collaboration

The GMDC would like to invite you to contribute to a wiki document concerning women's media, women's human rights and funding. Funding for women's rights interventions is a theme that arose and is being canvassed following the CSW focus on funding for gender equality this year, and it is this theme the GMDC would like to explore through a collaborative wiki document. Around the world, women in media are under-recognised and in the context of women's human rights media is an under-utilised tool. It is hoped that the wiki document will contribute to this context, and can be used as the basis fora paper to be presented at the upcoming AWID conference.Read more

For me, the word ‘heritage’ incorporates both the notion of ‘acquiring’ and that of being ‘ascribed’ a particular status, position or condition. Applied to the position of South African girls, violence, poverty, illiteracy and HIV and AIDS appear to be tightly woven into their heritage .
